This seemed fairly manipulative and disingenuous from my perspective, some minor confusion about the question and my subpar answer gave the founder what he perceived to be justification to provide a lowball offer because in his words 'it shows you're not senior enough for this position'. Ultimately, I would avoid this company. These types of interview practices are pretty shady and it doesn't reflect well on the company.
