      The interview required meeting with the hiring manager, and then meeting with a designer to do an app review of a common consumer app. If that went well, then a portfolio review would be the next step.

      App Review Process 30 min. with a designer 5 min introductions 20 min critique 5 min questions you have for your interviewer Goal In this interview, you will lead a critique of a popular consumer product by thinking out loud and collaborating with your interviewer. We would like to get an understanding of your approach to developing and improving user experiences, how you think about product strategy, hone in on business objectives and user needs, and make tradeoffs. What we'll cover You'll critique a popular consumer product by thinking out loud and collaborating with your interviewer. First, briefly share your thoughts about the product at a high level, including: Product strategy — describe the purpose and value of the product to users and use cases beyond your own. Business objectives — compare the product to competitors (if applicable) and consider their business and revenue model. Then, for the majority of the interview, lead the critique: Choose 1 key user flow. Example flows could be: finding specific functionality searching for what you need viewing content through different views or filters stumbling upon useful features as you use a product more or as your needs become more complex upgrading from free to premium We want to hear how you think through: User experience (content, visual design, interaction design, motion) — observe and call out highlights, opportunities, and challenges within 1 key user flow. Tradeoffs — consider what the team building this product may have considered before arriving at the user experience you are critiquing. What trade-offs do you think the product team or designers may have made while creating this experience? How to prepare Plan to lead the critique portion of the interview; don’t wait for prompts from the interviewer. Keep an eye on time and try to avoid “analysis paralysis”. Don’t prepare and bring any artifacts or presentations. Choose one of these products on your desktop computer or mobile device to critique: Google Maps (mobile app or https://maps.google.com) Spotify (mobile app, the web player https://open.spotify.com/, or sign up for a free account https://www.spotify.com/us/signup) Ideally, we would like to follow along by seeing your desktop computer or mobile device’s screen. There are several ways you can share it on our Zoom call: iOS: Join the Zoom call via computer and your mobile device. Then, screen share via your mobile device (instructions & video walkthrough). Or, Join the Zoom call via computer. Then, screen share via your mobile device using a Lightning-to-USB cable and Quicktime on your computer (instructions). Android: Join the Zoom call via computer and your mobile device. Then, screen share via your mobile device (video walkthrough). Please test the screen share option you’d like to use before the interview. If you have any technical difficulties: Let your recruiter know before the interview so we can help troubleshoot, or Choose to share your thought process verbally, and we are more than happy to follow along. This will have no impact on your interview.

      Entretien

      Interview process started out good, first call with recruiter and second call with the hiring manager who were both friendly and enthusiastic. After that the process became messy, I got ghosted for a few weeks, even after checking in with them I got no response. Then the recruiter got back to me to schedule a follow up round and offered to expedite the process as I was in advanced stages with other companies. However, after providing availability I got ghosted again. Signed with another company and pulled out from the process at that point. Never received an apology for the way that the process was handled. It’s a shame that the communication was so poor as it seems like a great company with talented people.

      Quite thorough like literally the recruiter came with a pitchdeck and presented for 20 mins for the 1st 30-min call. I think it's a weird format to get to know candidates and at the end told me if I like what I heard schedule a follow-up call w him tmw and share my portfolio with him (which he should already have) with context so he passes it to hiring manager.

      The interview process was long, taking about a month total to complete. It starts with HR > Hiring Manger > Design Exercise > PM > Research > Culture — I might be missing a step, but it was long. Overall, it was quite a thorough and transparent process, I appreciated that.
