I interviewed for a Partner Program Manager, Channels and Alliances role. Four of the five team members who interviewed me LIED. They had me prepare a proposal to build a Partner Solutions Center based on the premise that they were exploring building one. This proposal included a 90-day plan on how to design, build and launch. The requirements of it and to do it well, necessitated over 30 hours of time. Here's the thing. Stripe already HAS a Solutions Center. Yet, during the course of day two and four interviews in, a team member declares, "I know I'm not supposed to be telling you this, but we already have a Solutions Center." I had asked very specific questions about it to the other team members, and each one pretended like it didn't exist. Additionally, the hiring manager didn't even have the professionalism to thank me for what was clearly a lot of time and expertise in preparing the proposal. Nor did he pull it up. Instead, he interviews me like I’m interviewing for a sales role and says “pretend like you’re on Shark Tank and you’re presenting your sales pitch to me as though I’m Stripe LT. I’m giving you 2 minutes to deliver and I’m timing you. Ready, set, GO!!!” I otherwise had one of the interviewers act like he was reading off of my resume and he literally made up something that I didn’t even have on my resume as though I did, and then he asked me to explain it in detail. When I asked another interviewer for input on the value of a Solutions Center (I had not yet built the proposal), her response was “I don’t know about this Solutions Cetner, BUT I’m going share some insider information with you. Stripes are VERY competitive and I’m building out my own partner center of excellence.” The level of dishonesty and unprofessionalism is something I’ve never experienced and hope to not ever do so again. Out of curiosity, I viewed the hiring manager’s LinkedIn given that he carried on about his depth of partner experience. Funny thing. He has NONE. He’s an operations manager from AWS, yet he’s been giving the role of directing to grow a Stripe partner ecosystem. In over his head for sure. I don’t believe that this process enables Stripe to achieve anything of value and instead and in my case, exposed the incompetence, dishonesty, and appalling lack of professionalism other than one.
