I applied online, got instantly a very kind email asking about my salary expectation. After a couple of weeks we set up a date and time to have a phone interview. My salary expectation was higher than what they could offer, so we agreed that I will get back to them on that day to let them know if I am willing to go lower on the payment or not (had to do again some research about London living costs, because I am not from the UK).
That afternoon I sent them an email with a few more questions, before making up my mind. They replied about a week later answering my questions and saying that if I reconsider my payment expectations, they would be happy to discuss further. I wrote them back that I would be happy to reconsider and that I am standing by for the next step of the interview.
Then no sign for about 2 weeks again. After a follow up email I got a message saying that "after reviewing my application, they regret to inform me that I have not been selected for further consideration".
I had a very good feeling about this company at the beginning, was really looking forward to a possible employment, I was even open to accept a lower salary offer just to have more chance to get hired there. Obviously it's never pleasant to get rejected by someone, but I can accept their decision to choose someone else. It happens to everyone. No biggie.
However, I believe that they shouldn't have written contradictory emails and get a persons hopes up.
Also, Brexit happened meanwhile, maybe that played a role in deciding to not continue the interview..maybe.
