J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez Starling en août 2024
Entretien
Long process - from start to finish it took just over 2 months. In total, there's 4 interviews (inc. initial screening call) and a take home assessment. The interviewers were very friendly, seemed like a great environment to work in.
Unfortunately after my final stage interview, I didn't hear anything for a week. After I chased up, I was told they "went with someone else due to experience"...the exact same role was then re-posted a couple weeks later (and is still live). I did reach out to careers@starlingbank.com, but am yet to receive a reply, not sure what happened!

Question 1
The take home was pretty standard EDA task with some dimensional modelling concepts - the recommended time is 3 hours but given it's open ended nature, it'll take much longer to do a good job

Entretien
The process consisted of the following stages:
> Pre-Screening Call
> Hiring Manager Meeting
> Technical Assignment
> Technical Review
> Business Interview with Senior Data Leadership
I was rejected after the 4th stage, with the entire process taking 10 weeks. In the rejection email, they cited my analysis as the reason for rejection. However, given the broad task brief (which covered EDA, modeling, and analysis within 90 minutes), it allowed them to justify rejecting candidates based on any aspect.
Communication was highly impersonal. Alex Y, the initial representative, ignored all follow-up emails but continued sending updates about the process.
Overall, the staff were pleasant, and the company appears to be growing. The current market (2024) is brutal for candidates, and based on this experience, Starling seems to be taking full advantage of that demand. Despite progressing through the stages, my interest in the position had already declined before the rejection. No self-respecting professional would find this process enjoyable by the end.
