      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Spokeo en nov. 2023

      Entretien

8-9 rounds (ridiculously long), including a lengthy Hackerrank assessment (2.5 hours up front), and take-home exercise. First is the Hackerrank assessment, then HR screen, then hiring manager screen, then take-home exercise, then hiring manager again (more of the same types of open-ended conceptual questions), then recruiter to discuss benefits and compensation, then a technical interrogation (45 minutes of rapid-fire technical questions), then a last "cultural" and "behavioral" round. I liked some of the people I interviewed with but never got a good sense for whether I'd like to work with them or not. The worst aspect of interviewing at Spokeo is that as a straight white man over 40 it really seemed like the deck was stacked against me from the beginning. Like it's just all a song and dance to present the impression of equal opportunity while ultimately never having a real opportunity. The ENTIRE DS team is non-White, for example. And the company itself? Easily 80% non-White (I did the math)... so you draw your own conclusions, but IMHO this is a DEI-driven organization where White people don't get a fair shake, in general. A few folks might occasionally slip through the cracks during times of high demand and low supply from suitably diverse candidates, but I'm reasonably confident my not getting an offer in this case (having made it through the entire process and doing, I think, objectively well) was a result of ageism, racism, and bigotry. I'm considering legal action against the company because I lay money that the candidate they hire for this role is... you guessed it, non-White. In short: White people, look elsewhere. Spokeo is only for non-Whites. Am I angry? Absolutely. I've been through 90 interviews and submitted 800 applications and I keep running into this discriminatory behavior from organizations who think they're doing the right thing by shafting folks like me.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

General questions about estimating models and evaluating their performance (in the abstract as well as real-world performance).

We respect all candidates’ opinions and the right to express them. We’re sorry that you feel that you did not have a good candidate experience with us - as well as in 90 other interviews. We don’t shy away from the fact that we have a high bar when making hiring decisions. We want to ensure all of our teammates possess the requisite professional and personal skills to succeed in their roles. We also make no bones about giving all candidates and teammates a fair shake without regard to race, ancestry, color, religion, religious creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, mental and physical disability, HIV status, need for protected family and medical care leave, genetic information, medical condition, marital status, amnesty need, or status as a covered veteran. We welcome all people from all walks of life. We are very proud of our values and of the fact we have a diverse team (your hypothesis on our departmental and overall ethnic makeup is not correct). If having a diverse employee base makes us a bad employer in your eyes, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. We wish you good luck in your ongoing search.
