This was the most unprofessional interview experience I’ve ever had. It genuinely didn’t seem like they were interested in hiring someone.
A recruiter reached out to me a few months after I applied for a position on SpaceX’s website. On paper, I exceeded all the requirements for the role.
I had a screening call with the recruiter, who afterwards said I would move forward to an interview with the hiring manager. After two weeks of silence, I followed up with the recruiter. The same day, I received an email to schedule the call with the HM. I was excited about the opportunity and prepared extensively. The hiring manager never showed up. I waited for an hour with no communication. Hours later, I reached out to the recruiter, who casually mentioned that the hiring manager was traveling and rescheduled me for two weeks later.
The rescheduled call with the hiring manager went fine. Afterward, I received an email inviting me to speak with the team’s director.
The director called me while leaving a hotel room, talking to housekeeping in the background. He introduced himself and then asked, “Remind me what role you’re interviewing for?” His interview questions were:
Why do you want this job?
Why should we hire you?
It felt like he wanted a quick personal pitch. Then he briefly described his work, didn’t allow me to ask any questions, and ended the call by asking which recruiter I was working with. After that, I never heard back from the recruiter/anyone else at the company. From what I can tell, they never hired anyone for the role either.
