Steps were that I had phone interview with recruiter, then hiring manager, then in person interview with 4 people (including in person with hiring manager). Everything overall I thought went well. Unfortunately, the recruiter emailed me about a week after telling me they moved forward with other people, which was fine but I always ask for feedback on where I could have improved. No response. I really did not appreciate that. Recruiters should know that feedback is crucial to candidates while they are actively interviewing. I hope a recruiter on the team sees this review and will take my feedback and apply it to future candidates.

Submitted application online, followed by a phone screen with a recruiter, then an interview with the hiring manager, followed by the SVP of Marketing, a peer, and another team member. Each about 45 minutes long. Prior to the last 3 interviews, they asked for a number of references to fill out an evaluation online that took those individuals about 20-30 minutes each. I found that completely odd to ask for references prior to a verbal commitment for an offer. This was a first, but also left a very odd feeling considering that's quite a large request to have 4-5 individuals spend significant time to provide their recommendation when no offer was being planned. Ultimately got the blanket feedback of "we went with someone else whose background and skills align more closely to the role"...even though I did this exact job for several years.
