      Entretien pour IOS Developer

      Entretien

A 15-minute call where an HR employee with an incomprehensible accent that makes a series of questions like why the candidate presented his candidature, the kind of contract you searching for, the reasons for choosing this company, how long it takes to be available for recruitment, 5 iOS theory questions. After I've answered correctly to all questions, this was followed by an email where they asked to do a Swift exercise to be carried out at home, which took 80 hours between development, testing libraries, and uploading to github, but they asked half the time ( 5 days ). I took the test in 5 days, I immediately sent an email and I monitored the traffic to my github and to my personal site, to see when and if they were taken in vision. My exercise has never been displayed, same thing for my social profiles.. From that moment 40 days have passed without the slightest response. I sent an email asking for explanations and the company replied after 2 days saying that they don't know me!!. I discovered that, following some company problems, my application was lost. So I help the company to recover my application. After almost 40 days (seriously, you can behave like that, this is an unprofessional attitude) finally my exercise is seen and is rejected after a few hours without motivation. I asked for further explanations but I never recevied details, only ethical excuses. I strongly doubt that this company intends to recruit a truly personal with this attitude, I am not surprised by the negative comments. I do not recommend anyone to apply, I only lost time.

I applied online for R3PI's Zurich Branch. After a few days they contacted me to arrange a call they arranged a (pretty standard) call where they introduced the company, what they do, etc etc then they ask you to talk about yourself, your experience and motivation. To be able to continue with the process the HR asks you to answer a couple easy questions (not so easy because the HR couldn't quite pronounce English) about iOS development, and, if you get most of them right, they'll send you an assignment which you have 7 days to complete. The assignment was average in terms of difficulty and you can easily complete it in a day or two. Overall a bad experience, mostly because after completing the assignment all I got is a automated reply stating that, for whatever the reason they do not think you're a good match - which is perfectly fine. What I'm not fine with is spending potentially a week of my time doing their test and then being rejected without actually getting any feedback from the assignment.

There was an awkward automated video interview, followed by a phone screen with HR, followed by a fairly complicated programming exercise, then a 2-hour long rapid-fire barrage of technical questions. None of the technical questions were too difficult, but I would make sure you know the difference between a value type and an object type as well as common causes of memory leaks. The programming exercise was interesting, but excessive considering the number of requirements to be met within a limited timeframe. I prefer programming challenges to whiteboarding, but companies that conduct them need to be sensitive to their candidate's time. These exercises should take no more than 2-4 hours, but this one easily took 8-10. To meet the bare minimum of the requirements would have taken only a few hours, but HR warned that not doing the extra credit "stretch goals" would reduce my chances of being able to move forward in the interview process. None of the interviewers were particularly friendly, which is fine, but one of them was downright rude. I think at one point I mentioned that though I had a broad background on lots of various technologies, I had only depth and detailed knowledge of a few (the ones required by this position). His response was something to the effect of, "You know a lot more than some of the other fools I've had to interview." Perhaps he was joking, or maybe his grasp of the English language was not strong enough to realize what he said was offensive, but regardless, it was a very unprofessional comment.
