Yes, we do sometimes have to close down applications that are in progress - this tends to happen later on in each recruitment cycle, once it becomes totally clear that we will fill all our vacancies from the applications that are further advanced for a given role. But it's really not ideal and I can only apologise that you were affected in this way. For what it's worth, when this does happen, we do offer candidates the opportunity to continue their application and opt for a later start date. But I appreciate that that might not be a viable option for many candidates. Applying early in the cycle, e.g. at the start of the academic year, is in general the best way to avoid this happening in the first place. That logic test with 50 questions in 15 minutes: yes, it's deliberately challenging, to stretch out the field, and we do see a very wide range of scores on this test. But about one candidate in a thousand manages to get full marks.
