The interview with Shopee for the software engineer role went smoothly. I was asked questions related to computer science fundamentals, including networking, security, databases, and operating systems, and felt confident in addressing most of the topics.

1. Online Assessment: around 10 domain knowledge questions and one easy hashmap coding question 2. Technical Interview: was asked CS fundamental questions on networking/API design/Java trivia and so + one string question on Leetcode easy (maybe medium) difficulty Passed the technical interview a week later although I felt I bombed it, maybe they were short on candidates. But by then I already got offer from my dream company so withdrew. And literally ten minutes later HR whatsapp me and peg me on the competing offer, then persuade me to not withdraw promising they can pay more, I say sure why not then. 3. Manager Interview. - asked to reverse engineer one of the framework APIs, was given hint, a very collaborative and intellectual experience - was the most original form of coding interview I experienced, the team lead was definitely smart and I was impressed by the experience A day or two later I got verbal offer from HR. I double confirm with them that they will outpay the competing offer and that headcount is confirmed. Then they go on for a month saying some restructuring happened?? And then I am left here ghosted. Good that I already signed my dream offer. It is extremely unprofessional to ghost a candidate with a verbal offer, let alone with an interview. Speaks a lot of their hiring practice on new grads, probably found someone desperate enough to lowball without a competing offer.
