      It's been a while, but the interview process -as I remember it- started with a few simple online questionnaires, a few days apart, mostly multiple choice...one that was more personality-related and maybe another that had more of an aptitude feel. Next, I was given a scenario with a shipping situation gone-wrong and an upset customer. I was asked to call a recorded line, and "leave a message for the customer" about how I was planning to resolve the situation. (I think this is where management is looking at how you naturally approach problems, and also how you might come across to the customer. ) After this, I received a call from Michael/Owner and Alex/Manager, separately...can't remember which was first. I do remember thinking that Alex was asking lots of questions to really get to the core of how I operate as a person, and how I think...almost felt like this was the "weed-out process." I remember him saying, "This can be a really great opportunity for the right person, but it's not for everyone." After that conversation, Michael scheduled a Skype interview with me. (Also, either before or after the Skype interview, Michael asked if it was okay to contact my current co-worker/manager, as a reference, without jeopardizing anything.) The Skype interview was probably about an hour, maybe longer. During this interview, Michael explained the duties of the job, but I felt like the interview was more about him trying to get a grasp of who I was as a person, what my tendencies might be, where I was at in life, how I interacted with others, how I might respond in certain situations, whether or not I was self-motivated, what my "why" was, etc, etc. I really appreciated this because, so often, employers are only concerned with what's "on paper," and never ask anything about your mindset, or what makes you tick. Also- this gave me the opportunity to get a feel for what it would be like to work for/with Michael.

      There isn't any one question that stands out. The interview was more like a conversation with a new friend who is getting to know you, and less like a question-answer session. (Relax and be yourself!)

      First, I applied online as directed. I then got an email, not signed from a representative of the company that said I needed to take a personality test. I did that. 30 minutes, 200 questions or something, pretty standard stuff, but a little odd to be given that without any conversation at all. Next day I got a response that said, great, now do another test - this one was 45 minutes or an hour. It involved performing sample sales...email responses, leaving sample voicemails, watching videos about their pricing system and then answering the questions. I probably should have stopped right then. At that point, I knew very little about the opportunity, but I figured I'd come this far... I received back almost immediately a request for a 30 minute phone interview with someone named Michael. No last name given and no contact phone or email signature. I accepted. 'Michael' responded with his email and told me to call him at the appointed time. I called him at the agreed upon time. No salutation, no discussion, just "I have more questions for you and then you can ask questions if you have them." It was just so weird. I have just spent 2 hours plus of my time getting this far, and he doesn't even has the courtesy to thank me or explain or even make small talk or explain who he is or what's next in this process. He just barrel ahead. I answered his questions. Mostly generic stuff, but he didn't customize it very well. I am a 'mature' sales rep. He asked me my career goals, when I've been a sales professional, as my resume shows for 25 years. What does he think? I'm going to go be a truck driver next? He asked me my career goals for the next 10 years. Oh for heaven's sake. In a fairly defensive way, he was very clear that he would seek out previous employers and coworkers and ask them what they thought of me. I don't really have a problem with that, and I told him that, but I am pretty sure it is customary to ask permission, not to be militant. At that point, it was clear that I just needed to get off the phone. I ended the call, thanked him for his time, and then sent a 'we aren't a good match' email, and he responded nicely, wishing me well. And for what it's worth, I still have no idea who 'michael' is. I guess he wants it that way. His linked in profile is his company, not even his name. Never seen anything like it.
