I interviewed as a remote candidate, and in the first interview you're informed about mob programming and how at this job you won't be working independently like most developers are accustomed. They explain how instead you would be spending every day in a "mob" where you will be required to video conference all day with other developers and take turns showing your screen while you program. I was hesitant at first, but then moved forward. The next two interviews you spend in a simulated mob where a couple developers watch you as you solve the programming challenges they present. The pressure of being watched as you try to think while being tested is uncomfortable for some — it helps to be vocal and speak out loud your thought process. The developers were very nice and friendly which also helps. I felt confident about both technical interviews, it was only with the database question that I got a little too anxious to think clearly since they give you a set of requirements and ask you to design a set of tables on the fly. It was a small bump, so I was disappointed when I got a call from them regarding my candidacy and they tried to use it to get me to agree to a lower salary. They explained I checked every box as a candidate and they wanted to get me across the finish line, but that the salary will be lower from just that one hiccup. This was bizarre, and I would guess that it's a frequent tactic the company uses. I've never seen anything like that, and I thought it was quite manipulative and a poor way to start a potential relationship. The phone call put a bad taste in my mouth, the silver lining being that I wasn't too disappointed the following day when I received an email from them that didn't even have anything to do with the aforementioned. It said they will not be selecting me because they have a lot of back-end developers already and want a front-end developer instead. You would think that's something they should probably figure out first before bringing people through the entire interview process. Also, one of the hiring managers I first spoke to was no longer at the company after being there a very short time which made me scratch my head a bit, and reading other reviews backs up that there appears to be a really high turnover rate. Overall, there's a lot of red flags with this place so I would remain wary.
