The interview experience and onboarding process was excellent. The executive recruiter (Christine) was stellar- great communication, provided transparency of the process, and gave really good advice. I've gone through the recruiting process with other big tech companies and entertainment studios but I think the Roku recruiting experience has been the best so far. It's quite apparent that the company has allocated resourcing to perfect this end to end experience. The consistent communications and Box document sharing helped answer all the questions I had during this early interviewing phase. The Roku interview panel felt more like a conversation than an interview; what really caught my attention was how humble and smart the employees seemed. It was a good indicator of what the culture would be like. Finally, I think it's important to note that my interview experience overlapped with the outbreak of COVID. I was fortunate to do the in-person interview but follow up interviews took place via video conferencing. The remote onboarding was very organized and quite seamless. I think other companies should model after what Roku has in place for recruiting. They've set the bar quite high. Advice for others: It's important to do your homework on the Roku company, Anthony's vision, history, revenue streams, and culture. Knowing the basics really give you a step up when you talk to the interview panels.

They had several rounds with the last one in person. They gave me a free roku device, which was a nice touch. The process felt pretty sterile, not a lot of personal interaction aside from going through the motions

I thought that Roku was a serious company, and I must say that I am highly disappointed. I have been through six interviews, during each I had to answer multiple hypothesis, and spent many hours in the hiring process without receiving a response. When I reached out to their HR she scheduled a call with me but never called and did not send an email either. I, therefore, decided to remove my application for the director role at Roku.

The interview process was smooth from applying online, phone screening to scheduling 1:1 Zoom meetings with the hiring team. The interviews consist of detailed hypothetical questions. My sense is that the hiring manager is gathering intel as he is still figuring out the team structure and goals. Unfortunately, communication went silent after I completed the interview loop despite a heartful thank you note and follow-ups. I understand priority changes and people are busy, it’d still be courteous to provide an update especially after the candidate has invested time and effort engaging in the interview process. Perhaps it’s a representation of the company culture? I seem to see the patterns based on others’ feedback on this thread – ghosting candidates.
