I had two different interviews. One with HR, which went very well, and one with a hiring manager.
As soon as the manager got involved in the process, everything started to crumble. There were constant reschedules, and HR stopped answering my questions. I just waited and rescheduled the interview every single time it happened. Finally, on one fateful day, around the 7th or 8th time I had to reschedule, it didn't get canceled.
I thought I was finally getting my chance, but the manager joined the interview from a noisy, public environment, a restaurant, if I’m not mistaken. At one point, a waitress even came up to his table to ask him something. In the middle of asking me a question, without batting an eye, he looked up from his device, started talking to the waitress, and then looked back to continue his question like nothing had happened. While I was answering, he kept looking around, and eye contact was almost non-existent.
Because of the noisy environment and his accent, I had to constantly ask him to repeat himself. At one point, I even started repeating the question back to him before answering just to see if he would nod or give me any facial expression to suggest I was on the right track. Safe to say, the guy would be great at poker.
I’m not saying I was perfectly prepared for the interview, I'm sure I could have done better, but the disrespectful attitude of the manager completely took me by surprise, especially since the HR team had been so nice.
After the interview, I was ghosted for several weeks, even when I followed up for feedback. Two weeks later, I received a generic rejection email stating they hoped the feedback helps me understand what happened. But here is the thing: there was absolutely no feedback attached. I wrote back, asking for the feedback they mentioned, and was ghosted again. It was the worst interview process I have ever experienced. I would only recommend it to people with nerves of steel.
