I was contacted by a manager for a phone screen. He told me it would just be a 30-minute phone screen, so I expected it to be just on my resume and prior experiences. The first 15 mins were just that, but then the last 15 mins switched to open-ended yet very specific technical questions, such as when would you need 2 watchdog timers in a system. I was caught off-guard by the sudden shift to deep technical questions, and I was unable to answer most of them adequately, and was sent an automated rejection email a few days later.

Question 1
What is a watchdog timer? Why would you use more than one of these in a single system?

Great process. 1 recruiter intro call 2 technical calls where they went over experience and a couple short technical q's 1 final round where it's behavioral, technical, and a tour!

Question 1
They asked some systems design questions where they didn't need you to code anything up, but instead wanted you to think about how to design an embedded system from the ground up. I don't want to give the exact question away.

After applying, the recruiter promptly reached out for an introductory phone screen. I had 2 follow-up phone interviews that were a mix of technical questions and general background/experience, as well as a take home embedded coding quiz. Then I was brought in for an on-site interview which consisted of a presentation on my experience and technical skillset, an on-site lunch, and one-on-one interviews with members of each team. After the on-site, the team felt I was a better fit for a different position, and after some discussion I agreed and accepted an offer.
Overall the interview process was challenging, but the team was incredibly welcoming and made the whole experience interesting and fun at every step. The process took ~2 months total, but it was over the holidays and recruiting kept me in the loop through each stage. I also appreciated that the recruiting team considered my application for other roles to make sure it was a good fit for myself and Relativity. No complaints, definitely worthwhile.
