I was referred by a friend and sent in my cover letter/resume, then there was a phone screen. After that they sent an ACT/SAT test that was timed to test your knowledge of the subject matter. After that there was one more interview with two people and one would pretend to be a student.

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Private Prep (New York, NY) en mai 2022

      Entretien

After four years as a tutor with the Huntington Learning Center, I decided that I wanted to try something new. This interview certainly was something new, though not in a positive way. There were two online interviewers portraying two students that, unfortunately, never existed in any of my real-life teaching experiences, very much like a bad movie that failed to reflect reality. Usually, I can just give a simple, straightforward explanation and the students would click right away. These "students" were so extreme in their disconnect that it was more like a complete breakdown that I've never experienced in real life. Making matters worse, because they were controlling the Zoom call, I was not able to access my teacher's guides online, so I was not able to review or enhance the explanations that these "students" were demanding. As a result, it was a very strange and degrading out-of-body experience, making me feel as if I had never taught anyone in my life, even though I actually have a very long and successful track record. It would be better if I could shadow a current instructor with a real student, instead of this mock session with these fake "students." That way, I can be more familiar with the whole format and I can have more of a seamless transition into the job. That was how I started working at Huntington and it's proven to be far more effective than this unreal mock session.
