      Entretien pour Senior Frontend Developer

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Potloc (Montréal, QC) en oct. 2020

      Entretien

I contacted Potloc's HR person myself on linkedIn and a video chat was arranged to introduce the company to me and vice versa as well as describing a bit about the role. The next day I was informed that that went well and that another video chat would be arranged with the CTO. This second interview was fine. There were no technical questions, at most I simply had to introduce myself and give a little background infomation about my career. The next day I was informed that the CTO was pleased with the chat and that a take home test would be sent to me. The take home test involved building an app to visualise store inventory data where the data was recieved with constant updates via websocket. And framework could be used or none at all (output the information to console for example) and any programming language was acceptable. There were a few "bonus points" requirements given which were optional such as implementing a warning system for when store inventory was running low. Another optional goal was implementing a way to indicate which stores to transfer excess stock to if there were too many of a certain item etc. I built the app in React (since I was informed that the job was going to be React based) and completed all of the additonal bonus requirements. I was encouraged to submit my test as a PR on Github so that the reviewers could leave comments of the test. The day after I submitted the test I was informed that they did not think my code was up to the standard of a senior role but that if there was ever a need for a mid-level frontend developer they would give me a call. No comments or feedback about the test were given whatsoever. I emailed the HR person saying thanks anyway but were the team going to leave any comments on the test and never recieved any reply. This disgusted me since I had spent around two days building the app to a high standard (it worked perfectly and was styled professionally) - the least they could have done was to comment on my code - especially since apparently it was not good enough for them. They wasted a huge amount of my time which is fair enough - it's a risk you take, but the least they could have done in return was to critique my submission and help me develop professionally. If you take Potloc's test do not expect any feedback even though they specifically state that they will leave some - it's a lie. The only positive thing I will say is that they were at all stages very quick to get back to me - the results of each interview were given the next day. Except for the technical test - it's been two weeks and they still have not given me any feedback regarding my code.
