Made it through on-line testing then a female called for a phone interview. She shared a very long company tree in a disinterested, monotone voice then asked me to tell her why I applied and my skills background. I was honest and said I have noticed many companies are thrilled with my background but get turned off when they realize I am in my 50's and hopefully this company was different. Before I could even start with my education/experience that would make me a good candidate she said "I don't think you are a good fit" and "I don't think you would be challenged in this JUNIOR position", "I know you have done the work for many years, but I don't think you would be happy never moving up to the controller position - because we already have someone in that position". I was stunned since she also claimed they were looking for a very solid, experienced team to take them into the next 10-20 years!. When I expressed that I applied for a payroll position, not a controller position as I not looking to climb the corporate ladder "again" but that I wanted to be part of a strong team, long-term. Her voice went very odd sounding (like when a teenager is saying OMG did she really just say that, eye-roll included) and asked if I had any more questions. She refused to listen to my future career path but instead "Told" me what she thinks it is. Clearly I wasn't getting that job simply because I am too old and stupid at 54....but a MAN with 20 years experience is classified "AN EXPERT" with companies fighting over him!!! Can everyone say "DISCRIMINATION" or as Human Rights calls it "Ageism". So I emailed this female back and told her if this is how this organization treats potential employees, then I would not like to see how bad they treat actual employees. I also reminded HER that SHE too will be 50+ years old someday and she just set the tone for herself to be classified as "useless in the workforce" in the future. The saddest part of this experience is that I can work circles both intellectually and physically around this person. My guess is she is a family member of the corporate owners so wouldn't know reality in the workforce anyway.
