      Entretien

      I had two 30-minute phone screens a week apart. One with their recruiter and one with their software development manager. The recruiter asked “getting to know you” questions and the software development manager had me explain my work experience. Nothing technical was asked of me in either phone screen. A week later I got an email saying that they wanted me to come in for an on-site interview with the software development manager and the director of engineering. The week before my on-site interview the interviewers were changed twice because of scheduling conflicts. I offered to reschedule but was told that it wasn’t necessary. The on-site interview was 1.5 hours with two of their lead developers. Both were nice enough but had just been promoted to the position (they told me). They asked me some specific questions about my experience and what I was looking for in a workplace. I tried to get each of them to talk about the technical skills listed for the position but they side-stepped my questions. After another 8 days, I finally got an email saying that my technical skills were not a good match for the position I applied for and they'd contact me if another position that matched became available. Overall, the whole process felt superficial and as non-deterministic as a random number generator. I’m not sure if they ever seriously considered me for the position (maybe as a backup?). They asked a lot of questions about work experience but nothing about specific projects/accomplishments or technical skills/ability.
