I understand that the company will see this and instantly know who I am, however, this interview will go down as the most bizarre I have ever had and I feel as though others would benefit from hearing this experience. To put it briefly the interviewer (I won't identify him) spoke with me 1:1. Everyone was friendly and positive, welcomed me into the office, then when the interviewer sat down with his legs open he revealed a large tear in his jeans. I pride myself in being a polite person and didn't want to embarrass him by pointing it out. He didn't acknowledge it so neither did I. Following a few vague and brief questions where I mentioned I had a boyfriend he immediately bought up wanting to change their Mango ice cream flavour name to "let your man go". I laughed this off to which he responded by barking. Yes. Barking like a dog. Again, at the time I was just embarrassed - didn't see how this came across as him possibly hitting on me and I just laughed it off and moved into showing him more of my experience. It even crossed my mind that he may have social or mental issues... As I was leaving the interview he asked me how my commute is. I told him about the troubles I have getting to my current role as the train company I travel with often cancel. He bought up that 'Derek' has the same problems. Someone in the office overheard and asked him who Derek is as they have no one at the company named that, to which he responded they use pseudonyms... I made a swift exit after this and received an automated rejection via Indeed two days later. I understand that a young startup with a positive office vibe may want to have a bit more fun in an interview, however I wasn't really asked about my experience and instead felt as though they had already decided they didn't want me and took the chance just to put me in an awkward situation and make fun of me. The rest of the office seemed nice but the experience felt as though the interviewer had been told strange things to do almost as a dare. I'm still very young myself but I ultimately feel like this was just some kind of cruel, strange initiation test which I guess I failed since I was too polite...
