I applied in May 2018 and heard back from a NYT recruiter in August. After the recruiter screening, I had a half hour interview with the hiring manager in September and then completed a long edit test. In October, I completed team-round interviews (one-on-one half-hour interviews with each of six people who work on the team or team-adjacent at the NYT). Then the recruiter called in late October that head count had been pulled for the role. Honestly, it was one of the most straightforward interview processes I've ever had and the hiring manager reached out to me in December, which was nice.
