In summary: They are not currently looking to hire in Canada. The whole process seems to be a formality to demonstrate an attempt to hire in Canada. I applied online and received an email from a recruiter a week later to schedule an exploratory call. However, the recruiter didn't show up for the first 5 minutes. After I emailed them to inquire, another person (not the recruiter who initially scheduled the call) joined the call. This person asked if I had experience in NLP, and when I confirmed, they proceeded and asked about my location. My location is clearly mentioned on my resume (in the PST time zone), and their job posting also specified "remote Canada." However, they seemed disappointed to learn that I wasn't in Toronto or the EST time zone. The interview was cut short due to this time zone constraint, and I received a rejection email afterward. A glance at their team on LinkedIn reveals that most team members are either hired from India or relocated from India after being hired there.

The interview process was very smooth. The hiring manager was prompt and readily available for questions and scheduled the interviews effectively and quickly, and I only had to reschedule one interview. The entire onboarding process was also fairly quick, taking around 1 month end-to-end. The interview topics were also given to me beforehand for each of the 4 technical rounds, and I was given enough time to prepare for each phase.
