No self respecting developer should work here, ever. Process is phone intro, code test, final 1 on 1. Passed phone test with flying colours, then sent a code test they wanted back within 50 (!) minutes of you receiving the email. Which means a few minutes to download and unpack it, read what you are supposed to do, then pack it correctly and upload it. Which leaves you around 30 to 40 minutes to build it. The readme did not mention any technical specs, all the technical specs were in a TDD style test file that checked for unnecessary, arbitrary things like, if a table row has a specific class, rather than functional testing. I submitted my code obviously not 100% done simple because i had to reference 2 specs (readme and tests file) and lost some time to packing/unpacking and their answer was a blunt NO simple because not all 6 of the tests were successful. They did not care how the code was written, how it was broken down into components, the actual quality and methods used to make the code professional and readable; but rather just whether the tests are complete. I have a confession to make, which might leave them dumbstruck. Passing the tests would be easy. Passing the tests with quality code IS what you are looking for. Code quality comes at a time cost. This company, clearly values speed of execution and barely reaching testing coverage, rather than code quality. Think to yourself, do you want to work in a company that puts speed of delivery above code quality? I know i don't. I would not touch this place with a 100 foot pole. So should you. Judging by the rest of the bad reviews i have seen around, my initial gut feeling was right.

"Thankyou for taking the time to apply for a position with Mosaic Smart Data. We are constantly striving to make our process a great experience for all candidates. We hope you enjoyed talking to one of the team for the initial phone screening - it's great to hear that you passed that stage with flying colours. With regards to the technical test, we are sorry that you had a negative experience and we will seek to address and learn from the points you raise. The 50 minute time limit is indeed a tight time frame and we are sorry to hear that this clouded your experience. We realise there is some admin involved (packing / unpacking) that adds time to the task. We are researching other test hosting solutions and hope to make an improvement soon. However, the fact that the test itself is timed is a deliberate and necessary part of the test environment. This is not intended to give the impression that we only focus on speed of execution and not quality of code in real life. In fact, far from it - the quality of our code and product is of the utmost importance. However, in a test environment we find it useful to see the quality of code candidates can produce under a bit of deadline pressure. Of the candidates that take the test, only 20-30% pass, so it is an effective screening process for us and enables us to focus on code quality, technical aptitude and problem solving at the second stage of the interview process, when we meet candidates in person. It's at this stage that candidates get a much better insight into the experience of working at Mosaic and the pride we take in the quality of our product and the emphasis on teamwork, continuous learning and collaboration. However, your feedback has highlighted to us that it would be useful to explain the context of the test and the purpose of the time limit to candidates before they take the test in future so we will make this change asap. If there are any other aspects of the experience you'd like to discuss with us, please don't hesitate to call me - otherwise, thanks again for taking the time out to leave us a review of your interview experience.
