      Entretien

My first interview was a phone interview, with their Director of HR. It went really well, and was more like a conversation than an interview. I gave her an overall description of my work experience, and in particular my experience related to the oil and gas industry. At the end of our time, she set up a face to face interview with their Hiring Manager. The next interview was a face to face with the hiring manager. I felt immediate hostility. It was not personable at all. I have conducted both interviews and been interviewed. Just from the initial demeanor, I knew I was in for a rough interview. We went over, my resume, line item by line item. Well, I've been in Austin, 20 years, worked for big corporations, small start ups, and even ran my own business for a while, as a consultant. I was . asked nothing about my experience within the oil and gas industry. I was never asked about sales techniques, what my process was towards cold calling, prospecting, closing sales, up selling. It was all about why I left the jobs.

After I applied, they had me do a personality test before coming in for an interview. Then I met with the Director of Sales. It was 90 minutes long and honestly, it was ridiculous. He asked me what I didn't like and regretted in university (this wasn't an entry-level position) and even asked me what GPA I graduated with. Then I come in for a second interview and they had me sit with two current salespeople on the team. One of the sales people had just been promoted from an SDR role and has significantly less experience than me. Lastly, the Director of Sales tells me that he'd like for me to come in once more to meet with the DrillingInfo team to see if I was a good culture fit there, in case I wanted to transfer jobs there. A week or so later, I receive an email saying they decided to go in a different direction, and when I said "I understand, can you please let me know what the deciding factor was so that I can learn from the process," I didn't get a single response. That's not how you communicate to prospective employees or portray a healthy work environment. In addition to that, I had to go to the DrillingInfo office, and it was such a mess from the acquisition that we were walking back and forth because they couldn't even find a proper place for us to sit and talk. I ended up leaning against a bench feeling very uncomfortable. Also, one thing to note is that the environment is very unstable from the acquisition, and what they could be trying to sell you on now, may not be what you actually get 3 months from now.
