      Entretien

      ## Overall Experience Positive I interviewed at Lightspeed for a Staff Software Developer role and had a strong experience end-to-end. The process was structured, the interviewers were professional and engaged, and the conversations felt focused on real-world engineering rather than “gotcha” questions. Communication and scheduling were smooth throughout. ## Application / Timeline - Applied online / through recruiter outreach - Process included multiple rounds over a few weeks (scheduling moved quickly and updates were consistent) - Outcome: Received an offer ## Interview Process (Rounds) 1. Recruiter / Talent Screen Covered role alignment, expectations, and general background. Clear on next steps and timelines. 2. Technical / Coding Interview Practical coding + problem solving. Interviewer was collaborative and asked about trade-offs, edge cases, and clarity of thought (not just “get the right answer”). 3. System Design Interview Designed a realistic system and discussed APIs, data model, state management, scaling, resilience, and operational concerns. Lots of good follow-up questions around “what changes if this scales globally?” and “how would you adjust for resilience/failover?” Felt like a real engineering design review. 4. Leadership / Staff-Level Conversation (Director/Management) Focused on technical leadership style, mentoring, how you think through ambiguous problems, reflection/learning, and leading complex initiatives. Strong emphasis on doing the right thing for customers and proactively raising the bar.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

      - “Walk me through a complex technical initiative you led end-to-end.” - “How do you approach designing systems for scale and resilience?” - “How do you mentor engineers and help them grow?” - “Tell me about a time something didn’t go as planned and what you learned.” - “How do you balance delivery vs long-term engineering quality?” - “How would you change your design if the system needs to support multiple regions / offices globally?”

I was recently approached by a recruiter regarding an exciting opportunity, which included a lot of enticing technical details and benefits. I responded promptly, and the interview process began. The first interview was casual and engaging—I enjoyed the conversation with the interviewer, and everything seemed to be progressing smoothly. Shortly afterwards, I was scheduled for a second interview with an engineering leader. However, from the start of the second interview, I noticed a shift in tone. I encountered a dismissive attitude and condescending remarks during my responses. Unfortunately, a few days later, I received an email informing me that they would not be moving forward with my application. I followed up politely, asking for feedback or any insight into their decision, but received no response. To fellow engineers reading this: your skills and experience are valuable. It’s important to find organizations that respect and appreciate your contributions. Regardless of your background, you deserve to be treated with professionalism during the interview process. If you find yourself facing condescending remarks, dismissive behaviour, or a lack of basic courtesy, take your talent to a place where you’re valued. During my interview, the leader mentioned having experience at a FAANG company, which made sense that this person is shopping for robots and not humans.

Some basic standard STAR pattern questions like "tell me about the time you ...", can't remember the question.
