I was heavily recruited by their HR person. When she asked what year I graduated high school, I replied “is that legal to ask?”, knowing that it’s illegal to discriminate based on age. She replied that, while age discrimination is indeed illegal, it is okay to ask when I graduated. Since I didn’t want to lie, I responded honestly that I had graduated high school in 1972. She gasped loudly and quickly ended the conversation. Subsequent calls to follow up were responded to by saying, in essence, ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’ and voicemail messages were not responded to
