During the Zoom call, I was surprised to find that there were four other RNs who have worked for Kaiser Permanente and three hiring managers present. While I understand that group interviews can be an effective way to assess candidates, I found that this interview style gave some applicants an advantage, as they had more time to consider their answers after hearing the same questions repeatedly. Additionally, I felt like I was in a beauty pageant, vying for attention and love from the panel. I was disappointed to hear that some of the hiring managers were giggling and told me that I was using too many buzzwords. While I understand the importance of using appropriate language, I feel that it is unfair to judge a candidate based on this alone and led me to question if I was presenting myself in the most effective manner. I believe that my skills and experience speak for themselves, and I would have appreciated the opportunity to showcase them in a different setting.

You will be sent an email for a virtual interview called HireVue in replacement of the traditional interview. When I read the email about it being virtual the first time I thought that this may be a pre-screening before an actual interview. But I re-read the email again that itself was the interview.

It was approximately an 30 minute interview with one of the department managers. All of my questions were scenario critical thinking questions. The only question that wasn’t behavioral was the standard “tell me about yourself.” Overall it wasn’t a bad interview but I’ve had 6 years of working in the ER so I felt prepared for scenario questions on topics of who to triage first and based on these symptoms what do you expect a doctor to order.
