I was contacted in mid-April via LinkedIn by Amy about a potential opportunity involving embedded SWE utilizing displays. I said I was interested and to send over all the details. She linked to the job posting and told me to apply there, which I did. After a few weeks of no updates, I touched base with her to see if the position is still available. She said they are working on getting interviews ready and it should be a few more days when interviews will be scheduled. Roughly two months later I was contacted again out of the blue telling me would like to go ahead and get interviews set up. From the last conversation to that one, I didn't get any update messages. During the interview, I was asked about tech stacks, languages, methodologies, etc. that I was familiar with. The floor was then opened for me to ask questions and to get a feel of what they are expecting of me, and what I should expect from them in terms of the interview process. I had asked if there was any programming test involved (HackerRank, LeetCode, etc.), and stated that I'm more than willing to describe projects (personal and professional), past experiences/jobs, etc. But I wasn't a fan of timed programming tests. The hiring manager proceeded to go on a ten-minute tangent about how those are pretty bad, along with other thoughts on the subject. I sat there and listened to him, his thoughts, and his own anecdotes on the topic. I didn't really get a chance to say anything. The next day I receive an email stating I was no longer offered the position. I decided to message Amy via LinkedIn and asked why I was no longer being considered. A direct quote, "from the hiring manager, he said he doesn't know why you were so adamant about not doing hackerrank or other programming tests when we don't even do them..."All I did was ask about their hiring process, if they did them, and gave my small opinion about them, which the hiring manager agreed with, in spades. That was it. The hiring manager seemed to be more adamant about them than I was since his tangent went on for quite some time. If that's how they applicants, I couldn't imagine how they treat employees.
