      Entretien

I was approached via email concerning a job that the Inkitt HR department had identified me as a possible fit for. I did my research and despite some concerns over some of the stuff I found, I decided to go ahead and complete an interview. The interview took place over Skype in between Christmas and New Year's Day. I was asked to pick a half hour slot beforehand through a third party website. The interview itself was slightly unfocused, with some generic questions thrown in and plenty of general conversation. I was told towards the end that the working hours are as follows: 9am-9pm every weekday, 2pm-9pm on Saturday and Sunday is a day where everyone usually comes into work. I was asked if I had a problem with these working hours. As the interview was approaching it's 30th minute, I was allowed to ask only one question which I was a bit taken aback by. In the job spec, it was stated that the role would lead a skilled team of marketers. I asked how big the team was, and I was told I'd have one person working for me. This discrepancy seemed rather suspect. At the end of the interview, I was asked to complete a marketing plan that would earn 300 readers for a novel on the Inkitt website. I was given three days over New Year's to complete this. As I was working and going away, I got to work straight away. A day before the deadline, I was emailed by HR as there had been a mistake, I'd been given the wrong book. I was then asked to start again with the new book as the focus. I didn't have much time to complete it (about an hour) but I sent in what I had. I didn't expect to get the job as I knew it wasn't good enough, but I did expect to hear back from Inkitt as was promised. Alas, almost a month later and I'm still waiting for a response. The company sounds great when you look at the website, but a quick search elsewhere reveals some rather strong criticisms that seem to be going unaddressed. Do your research before you interview.

Hi there, thanks for your detailed and honest review. We want to apologize for the way your "application" (kinda the wrong word, since we approached you...) was treated. The hiring process including the interview structure, the time in which we inform you about the next steps and the feedback you're receiving through the process was recently improved by our company. We have seen the great problems in our hiring process and addressed them. We hope that at some point in life our paths may cross again and we have the chance to deliver you a much better candidate experience. As for the working hours: In the early stages of our startup, by the time you were in the hiring process, these were indeed our working hours. Ben Mallah once said on how to succeed: "You gotta work the hours - nobody else wants the hours." And we believed in such a mindset. However, we no longer have that working schedule. We have implemented freedom in the choice of when you want to work and from where. As long as we reach our goals, you can work at night, early in the morning or 9 to 5 - whatever you desire! As said already, we've done the research too and we are improving on our mistakes so they won't happen again in the future. Still, we apologize for the experience you had. All the best for your future, Your Inkitt Team
