It was a video interview. There was no one to speak with to ask verification questions. My issue was the practice process was not like the video interviewing process. Specifically, during the practice rounds they allotted 30 seconds for a planning round and 3 minutes for the answer round. However, for the actual interview, the first question was asked by a video message left by the reviewer. It was a nice video however, after the question was asked the screen said 3 minutes and I got nervous and thought the answer portion started and or this question there was no planning. Yet, I was wrong. I was flustered and began answering the question during the planning session which meant, I had no real time to plan for the answer and had to repeat myself twice. Although the second response was better, it was not a good start to my interview. From then on, I lost my confidence and felt my answers to be lacking. This was my first video interview. I prefer an interview where I can speak with a person 1 on 1. I am a young professional however digital interviews seem very impersonal. This was a nice opening to what the job market is and how I can prepare for the next one. Good luck all. Illumina, as a company, is great.

In the technical round, I was asked to solve Java problems like star pattern printing, string manipulation, and logic-based tasks like checking even/odd numbers and parsing strings. One question was about accessing specific characters from the end of a string.
