Bizarre and inexplicable is the only way I can describe it. The first interview with one of their structural engineers appeared fine. He told me that my facilities maintenance experience would be very useful to them with the problems they had been having recently with their engineers not understanding certain mechanical requirements. He asked some general questions about my experience and told me to think about my salary requirements. The second interview was with a member of their senior management. He did not ask me any questions, but told me that they outsource most (if not all) of their design work to a shop in Jordan, including work for the Department of Defense. He then told me that they need someone who speaks Arabic (I do not) and that their design shop in Jordan had been supervised by an intern who spoke Arabic, but only limited English. At this point I was expecting him to start laughing and tell me he was joking, but he did not. He then told me that they were preparing an offer for me (Why, I don't know) and sent me on my way. When I conacted the previous manager's immediate superior, he disregarded my concerns and claimed that it never happened. I also got repeated calls from the engineer who first interviewed me, the one who lied about the job requirements, accusing me of making false statements to his management. I have reported this to the DoD IG office as well as the California BPELSG. The DoD never responded, and the response from the BPELSG neglected to address the isue of engineering work performed without proper supervision. My own investigation with their clients turned up unexplained delays in their work and some design work that had to be sent back for rework, indicating that manager who interviewed me the second time may have been telling me the truth.
