      Entretien pour Visual Designer

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via une autre source. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez IA Collaborative (Chicago, IL) en sept. 2015

      Entretien

The interview process was very informal and frankly, somewhat scattered and disorganized. I received an introductory email directly from a principle creative who, after some exchange, inadvertently revealed her confusion about the difference between Graphic Design and Visual Design. Next, I received some emails and a phone call from staff in the Interaction Design department who seemed confused as to why they were speaking to a Visual Design candidate. They were expecting to speak with a UX Designer, I think. Finally, I was called in for an face-to-face interview that required me to give a presentation of my online design portfolio. About 11 people were present. Most of the staff was friendly and engaged, but there were a few instances where random, unidentified people entered and exited the conference room while I was presenting. One person stared at their cell phone most of the time. Overall, most were receptive and conversational, a couple of others seemed mentally absent and or irritated. Mixed crowd. The in-person meeting took about 1hour and 30 minutes. I spent most of my time in the conference room answering questions about my design process, my current employer and current agency clients. Upon my exit, I was told several times to expect a formal call and email from Human Resources regarding "next steps" but I never received anything. In fact, I attempted to reach out the company, including the individuals who interviewed me, regarding my status and never received a single reply from anyone. I thought this was extremely unprofessional and in poor taste. A quick email would have sufficed to say 'pass'. For that singular reason, I would never recommend any peers or fellow alumni to consider an application here. Propriety goes a long way.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

They asked me to describe my "singular design process". They asked this question many times, which made me feel like I wasn't responding with the answer they were looking for. They also asked me about my "passion for graphic design", which I thought was odd because I was applying for a visual design role. In response, I asked several questions of my own about the role I was applying for, the department I might be working in as well as prospective or current projects—they refrained from answering most of my questions on the grounds that it was secret.
