Hiya clearly doesn’t have their interview process down for software developers, because this process was nuts. It was 8 parts total. The first was a simple 3 question online assessment, then after that was: 4 rounds of behavioral, 1 design, 1 live coding, and 1 recruiter deck. The behavioral rounds totaled roughly 20 questions with basically no probing questions, just rapid fire. The recruiter deck was 45 minutes of misleading details, and something no other company has put me through. The design question they couldn’t decide if they wanted me to diagram, or just notepad my ideas, making it difficult to understand what they wanted. The live coding interview was around implementing an Android feature, but it was done using an online tool instead of just using Android Studio, and the base code given was 100% barebones new-project, causing extra confusion about what they actually wanted implemented. The online tool also made it way more difficult than it needed to be, versus just Android Studio. Having a GitHub project people can check out, with the unnecessary boilerplate filled out already, would make the process way easier. Overall, the process was a PITA that only focuses on surface level details, and isn’t refined enough to find appropriate talent.
