"We don't want to become a food company, we are a tech company." - hiring manager - This is an interesting statement in a job interview for a food role. Looking at the different roles recently advertised, the company is strategically planning the right structure for growth as a food company. However it seems the actual implementation is followed by slightly different principles. The job was advertised as rather senior all the way through the interviews and in the last conversation, under a little strain, the comment "we are very operational here" made it fairly obvious that "just another pair of hands" was going to be the reality of the role. No wonder they seem to find it difficult to find the right person to fit into their team - as the diversity and internationality they are looking for is really quite cool. If I may be permitted some advice, at some stage of your growth journey consider re-interpreting your value of "being a team" in a way that does not mean, everyone needs to do everything. - with group size comes specialisation and division of work.
