My Interview Experience at HSBC The selection process at HSBC was a well-structured and comprehensive evaluation consisting of two distinct rounds: a Technical Interview followed by an HR Interview. The entire process was designed to assess not only my technical proficiency but also my problem-solving abilities and cultural fit within the company. Round 1: Technical Interview This round was moderated by a senior developer and was primarily focused on evaluating my core technical skills and logical reasoning. The interview was approximately an hour long and was divided into three main sections. Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA): The interview began with a DSA question. The problem was of medium difficulty, focusing on array manipulation and required an optimal solution. I was asked to first explain my approach and then write the code on a shared editor. The interviewer was keen on understanding my thought process, so I made sure to communicate my logic clearly before coding. After I presented my solution, we had a brief discussion about the time and space complexity of my code and potential alternative approaches. Project Discussion: Next, the interviewer asked me to discuss one of the projects listed on my resume. The questions were not overly granular but were intended to gauge my understanding of the project's architecture and the technologies I had used. I explained the tech stack, my specific role and contributions, and the challenges I faced during development. The focus was on my ability to articulate the project's purpose and my hands-on experience with the tools mentioned, rather than a deep dive into implementation details. Puzzle Question: To conclude the technical round, I was given a logical puzzle. It was one of the classic analytical puzzles designed to test problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure. I took a few moments to think and then walked the interviewer through my step-by-step reasoning to arrive at the solution. The emphasis here was clearly on the approach and logical deduction rather than just getting the final answer correct. Round 2: HR Interview After successfully clearing the technical round, I moved on to the HR interview. This round was more conversational and aimed to assess my personality, communication skills, and alignment with HSBC's values and work culture. The interviewer asked a series of standard HR questions, including: "Tell me something about yourself that isn't on your resume." "Why are you interested in joining HSBC specifically?" "What do you consider your greatest strength and your biggest weakness?" "Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five years?" "Describe a situation where you had to work under pressure to meet a deadline."
