Had a phone HR interview, then took a 2 hour writing test. They didn't move forward after that. Don't know if it was due to the test or my lack of experience at the time; I emailed the recruiter to ask and didn't hear back.
Good experience. The initial writing assessment was very difficult, but it's easily do-able within the time limit. I also had a phone interview with HR that went into the basics of the job and the expectations. There were plenty of opportunities to ask questions and clarify information.

It was a relatively easy interview. The questions asked were pretty standard. They wanted to know about my education, writing process, why I wanted to work there, etc. The bulk of the decision was based on a time-sensitive writing assignment I was to complete after the interview.
Honestly, I think the decision process is a bit backwards. They judge you almost solely based on your ability to complete a difficult writing assignment based on the time allotted. That's not the issue I have, though. They say they'll train you if you get the job, but apparently you won't get the job unless you complete the writing assessment perfectly. And of course, if you've never done something like this before, you won't be able to complete it perfectly... that's what the training is for.
Overall, I didn't have a negative experience, but if you aren't used to interpreting scientific papers, you may want to save yourself some time and skip this application process.
