First a screening test on SQL queries and Python that I passed with 100%, then a call with HR and a technical interview with the head data scientist in their office in Sydney. The technical interview was quite unpleasant, the attitude from the interviewer was very smug and unwelcoming. Questions ranged from basic python and sql (stuff that requires a millisecond to google but I didn’t know on my feet) and then more statistical stuff. All in all one of the worst interviews I’ve ever had, made me question straight away if I would want to work for the guy.

- Contacted by HR to discuss motivation/interest/background
- Short phone interview to discuss motivation and cover Python/SQL concepts
- Interview covering motivation and background + 45 minute written test covering a broad range of concepts (Programming/SQL/Unix/ML Concepts/Probability/Experimental Design). Written test was discussed with interviewers to gauge answers.
- Final interview focused on statistical concepts to gauge thinking process and technical background. (1-1.5 hours)
Interview was unpleasant and strange at times, a broad range of concepts were expected so would recommend preparing, low remuneration, HR/interviewers were flexible with scheduling, did not think I would be a good team fit.

HR reached out after I applied online to give a HackerRank test involving some fairly easy Python and SQL questions.
After completing the test, HR reached out again to set up a 30 minute phone interview with the hiring manager. This included some very basic technical questions in 3 categories (Python, SQL, math/stats) and an opportunity to ask any questions I had about the role.
Finally, I was given an hour to finish a test my fundamentals in maths/stats, coding (Python), SQL, and machine learning. Two interviewers then spent about half an hour going through my answers and approach.
The interviewers are very knowledgeable and it is an enjoyable interview if you like learning.

Question 1
Technical questions testing your knowledge of the fundamentals in four main categories: maths/stats, coding (Python), SQL, machine learning.
Application online, then an online assessment concerned with SQL and Python, writing simple SQL statements and functions in Python to solve the tasks, and then go to a technical telephone interview with the head of the data science team.
