The phone interview was straight forward. Simple questions about my CV more so. Then only a few questions on what I knew about company. How did they start etc. Got an email the next day saying to come for a face to face interview. So I got set up with a date, 2 weeks after my phone interview. Face to face consisted of two separate one on ones, then a group scenario and finally a logic test. The 2 one on ones are obviously the most important. I was asked about my CV briefly and then was asked about the company in detail. I studied the website for a solid two weeks. Giving the interviewers facts and figures that were stated from the website. I provided them with detailed information about Kx technology, what it does and how it works, without them asking me. One of the interviewers said to me "Wow, you have done plenty of research on what we do, you probably know more than me". I thought to myself ok this is going well and gave me that extra bit of confidence.
So, at the end of the interview I asked the question "Considering the futures programme is looking for individuals outside of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths), what job role do you think I would be best suited for?" She replied, I am very impressed with what you have brought to the table today and I see that you have a background in A-Level ICT, and you are Java qualified, so I think I will be referring you to the software development/testing department. If you are successful, you will know by the start of next week. I replied, thats great to hear I look forward to hearing back from you. Monday came and I received the following email. "Your CV is of great interest to us however, at present we have no opportunities which suit your profile. As such, we are keeping your CV on file and would like to keep in touch. We look forward to speaking to you again soon."
COME ON!! What on earth is this about? No opportunities which suit my profile? It clearly states on the website that "The Futures Programme is for individuals outside of STEM, therefore you will get fully trained as we expect you to have no previous experience." Also, not to mention the fact that the interviewer basically said I would be suited for the software development/testing department because of my ICT/Java background, but now suddenly there is nothing which suits my profile?!
I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING SO POSITIVE TURN SO NEGATIVE AS QUICKLY IN MY LIFE!
What a total waste of 4 weeks prep, when I didn't even get the opportunity to prove to them that I would have been a great asset to their team.
I think these interviewers need to be better trained themselves by a higher member of HR, before interviewing any other people.
