I completed a long interview process, including travel to an onsite interview paid by the company. I received an offer. My background check cleared, and I completed the required drug-test process, but final results were not available before the scheduled start date. Instead of moving the start date or offering an alternative testing/logistics option, the company rescinded the offer, citing that the drug test was not completed before the start date and “lack of communication.”
Candidates should get every onboarding deadline in writing, confirm whether a pending lab result counts as “incomplete,” and avoid giving notice, relocating, or making commitments until all contingencies are fully cleared.
