I have applied for a position online, and received an email from a recruiter about 5 days later to let me know that position was already filled, but that they had another similar position currently open for which I might be suited if of interest to me. After reviewing position's requirements, the initial phone interview was arranged with a recruiter. The recruiter was not a native English speaker and I did have to ask him to repeat a few questions due to my inability to understand the accent. Having been working in finance industry for a little while, I have had quite a few interviews under my belt - I thought this one went quite well, and the questions were more general rather than specific. On a side note, it was probably the least professional interview I have had and maybe it had to do with the difficulty of understanding the recruiter, but I also thought the recruiter was not as professional or organised as any of the others I came across and had difficulty answering my questions about the position and the company and also seemed a bit confused on a few things. I received a rejection email 3 days after the phone interview took place, mentioning that there were better qualified candidates. Fair enough! But if I am totally honest, I think this is not something that recruiter could determine from the conversation that was had. Maybe it was just a personality thing - I'll never know. But I was really put off by this experience that I am unlikely to apply for any other jobs with Expedia. Shame really as it has been awarded best place to work in the UK. But first impressions really do matter and it goes both ways - and the impression I got of this company was not a very positive one.

Question 1
Tell me more about your professional experience that I would not be able to find on your CV; within last year, tell me about one new thing that you have learned; tell me about one thing / goal you set for yourself this year, etc. And then the usual - what's your current salary, notice period with your current employer, how are you eligible to work in the UK, etc.

I completed the OA and was selected for the full interview loop. The loop consists of one hiring manager round, two medium-level coding rounds, and a system design round focused on designing a URL shortener like Bitly.com.

The interview process was well-structured and organized. It began with an online assessment on HackerRank, which focused on data structures and SQL querying. After passing that, I was invited for a series of technical and behavioral interviews during the onsite stage. The onsite rounds involved whiteboard coding, deep dives into SQL window functions like LAG and LEAD, and a discussion about previous project experiences with the team. Overall, it was a professional experience that tested both my technical proficiency and problem-solving skills.
