      Entretien

I went through 2 phone interviews to begin: one with the president and one with someone I would oversee. The president asked me a number of questions about management style and he seemed interested in my answers and in agreement with my proposed approaches. He told me he would recommend me for a face-to-face interview with members of the team with whom I would be working closely. The process up to this point was great. I felt a good connection with the team members and could see myself working with them. A few days later, they asked me to come in again to meet face to face with the president and another member of the company with whom I would work. It seemed this interview was intended as more of a formality before an official offer would be made. To my surprise, the president began the interview by telling me he'd prefer to bring me in at a lower level than the job for which I'd applied and interviewed for because my level of experience matched that of one of the team members who would report to me. He couched it in terms of "setting me up for success" and that in 6-9 months I might be promoted to the position for which I was originally being considered. This struck me as a classic bait-and-switch tactic and I felt I'd been mislead. Based on the couple reviews on here that I'd read about the company and president, I didn't trust that the president would follow through on that promise and I was put off by the way the whole process was handled by that point. A lot of time and energy on my part and those who were involved in the interviews could have been saved had the president made that decision when he first saw my resume or, at the very least, after our first phone interview. I declined the offer.
