      Entretien

I found the listing on Craigslist and applied. A couple hours later I was invited for an interview for the following day. I get to the building and realize it's an apartment complex. I think to myself, okay, the firm is out of an apartment, I can look past that. I get to the apartment and I am greeted by the owner, DeAnne, who looks extremely weathered, not put together and stressed. She brings me into her cluttered office and looks over my resume. She said that I had potential and my resume was impressive. She asked what I was doing now and never really dove into the usual interview questions. Rather than interview me, she complained the whole time about her previous interns. She had mentioned her training program isn't beneficial if people don't stay. She literally complained for 10 minutes about how she cannot grow her company on interns. She finally asked me if there is anything my resume doesn't say about me. I wanted to bust out my writing samples but I didn't feel appropriate. DeAnne brings down the hall to meet her assistant, who had a handshake of a dead fish and looked like she hadn't bathe in days. Her assistant of five years seemed like a sweetheart, but was extremely nervous and didn't prepare any questions for me. So I started firing questions away. I came to the conclusion that they work off a single laptop, cold call press releases and work in a dimly lit dining room. I am almost positive DeAnne had fired an intern while I was there. After departing, DeAnne told me to email her if I still wanted to work for her. She made it seem like not many people do and wasn't very assertive about her offer. It was the most unprofessional interview I have ever encountered in my year of PR experience. I was completely stunned that PR professionals operate under these conditions. Regardless of the circumstances stated above, I needed a job and experience. The day after the interview I had emailed her saying I would like to accept your offer. She never responded. I followed up with her the following week. She responded with a condescending email about how I misused the word every day and that I am not detail orientated enough for this position. I was confused, because I was applying for an internship. DeAnne had praised my resume, didn't bother to look at my writing samples during the interview and offered me a position on the spot. I know my writing isn't the best, which is why I was applied to an internship. This whole experience made me reconsider PR as a profession. To say the least, I am glad it didn't work out!
