I had a brief phone interview with the department director. He scheduled an in person interview where we discussed the job and he asked/tested my knowledge on key subjects. I came back for a second interview where I met with HR, then the dept. director again, and ultimately the company president/GM.
The process is a bit different now. HR does a screening call, then a call with the dept. director, then a call with the dept. leads, finally an in-person interview up to 3 hours on site.
