I started with an initial phone interview that consisted of overly simplistic questions.
Next, I had a panel interview with a group of non-technical individuals who asked similarly basic questions. They seemed like nice people, but the interview lacked depth.
I received a conditional offer pending a background check.
The background check process took six weeks and was the most invasive one I’ve ever experienced. Given that the role involved supporting the police department, I understood the need for thoroughness. During this period, I proactively engaged with the community by attending public events and tours related to the department.
The background check included a police investigator contacting all my previous employers, family members, and even past girlfriends. The investigator then came to my home to ask a series of basic questions. What stood out to me was that the investigator seemed to treat this as a final interview rather than a standard background check, which was strange.
A couple of weeks later, I was informed that I had failed the background check. This was puzzling since I have a clean record. When I reached out to HR for clarification, the only response I received was that I had failed, with no further explanation provided.
