Some on their HR team contacted me via LinkedIn - saying that my experience looked like a good match for a curent role, and wanted to book an urgent call.
What followed a couple weeks after was the typical scripted questions you get in any screening call - nothing strange here, including what she said the next steps would be, who I'd be talking to next, etc.
After radio silence for 2 weeks, I figured I was being ghosted, so I messaged her on LinkedIn. I then received what was clearly the copy / paste response that goes out to unsuccessful candidates.
That's when I realized that this HR person was just one of those BDR-type people that scan LinkedIn for word-matches on resumes, to setup 1st stage calls with the hiring manager, without clearly understanding the requirements - resulting in calling people and making them feel like they're in an actual recruiting scenario, when they're just being setup for disappointment.
Suggestion - instead of messaging a bunch of people with Gen-AI / copy & paste messages, making them think the company is actually intetested in them, compile a list of prospects, share those profiles with the hiring manager ahead of time, and contact only the people that the hiring manager said he / she would like to speak with.
