Spoke with hiring manager, phone coding interview, onsite interview consisting of coding and system design.
Went through the loop twice. Each time I got the impression that the interviews are not conducted to hire a candidate. The first time, the system design apparently required some niche domain knowledge, while the coding rounds were trivial, wildly inconsistent in the level of prior experience with the requirements of the system design round. The second time my interviewers were nitpicking on variable naming or some such stuff that looked odd in the context of an interview. I failed multiple interviews at various companies and I'd typically reserve judgment but in my experience Cognite is disingenuous in its interview practices. It either is not looking to hire or uses the interview loops to justify hiring through some other non-public channels.
