Recruiter contacted me via email within days after submitting application online. Hiring manager requested a UX process document to be sent before considering for a phone screen. I declined as it involved confidential company information. Next I had a phone screen with the hiring manager and briefly walked through a product I worked on. Next, they requested a design challenge to be completed. The design challenge was time consuming. Within the same day I submitted the solution, I was rejected. The hiring manager expected a detail explanation of process, which was not included in the original challenge requirement. Usually companies would ask the candidate to come in and walk through the process in person during the interview. The interviewing process was not worth the time and effort, and it felt like they were trying to get candidates to design for free.
