      Entretien

      The interview process is really longer than it needs to be. Step 1. The HR manager reached out about a day after I applied and asked if I was still interested in the position and I was asked to take a personality test that took about 30min to complete then, they would reach out to schedule a phone interview depending on the results of the test. Step 2. I was invited to a phone interview with the HR manager and she went over the basic "tell me a time when..." questions. She asked questions about my management style and how I have handled situations in my past roles as an IT Manager. They are looking for a more laid-back approach to management. It seemed to me like they were looking for a manager that was okay with letting employees do what they want and was fine with cleaning up the mess when nothing got done. Maybe I'm wrong but, she kept mentioning that they are very flexible, and when I mentioned that I am big on being punctual that they just let the corporate employees drift in throughout the morning and asked if that was a problem... Yikes! Step 3. I was invited to come to an in-person interview at the corporate offices. I followed the directions and picked up the phone at the empty desk where a receptionist sat at one time and dialed the extension for someone from behind the glass to open the door and allow me back. About 10-15 minutes after the time the interview was supposed to start someone finally graced me with their presence (they had probably just drifted in at 2 in the afternoon and wanted to how "flexible" I am). I was then taken into a conference room where they pulled up a skills test for me to take on the computer. The test was pretty basic, just some basic math problems with a couple of light geometry problems, a reading comprehension test, and another personality test to make super sure that you're just as flexible as the first personality test indicated. Then, you finally meet the hiring manager. He then basically, wastes your time by telling you the old generic story about how he was the first IT guy for the company and has been with the company since the dinosaurs romped and roamed and how this company has "changed his life" and "opened doors for him" and now he's the CIO, you know, a real Undercover Boss success story. Kidding aside, the hiring manager was a nice guy but, I really didn't understand why I was there. I got the feeling they had already made up their minds and I was just there as a formality and that they couldn't have cared less about my experience or what I had to say. Step 4. No kidding, they SNAIL MAIL you a rejection letter like it's 1985 on the nicest stationery I have ever seen. I mean, I was impressed, I thought I was invited to dinner ball or something. The letter even said I could apply again if I saw a position I cared about. I am really not kidding, it is on invitation-style thick stock paper.

      Question 1

      HR Questions: How have you saved your company money? Talk about your management style. Name a time when you were running a project and it didn't go as planned. How did you learn from it and what would you do differently next time? Then the lady asked if I was interested in coming into the store to check it out and what I might be interested in buying. Hiring manager questions: You basically just go over your resume together and they pretend they are listening when you answer but, you can see they are thinking of the next question to ask and not even listening to the current question.
