I interviewed in the fall of 2022. The initial phone screen was conducted over the phone, and then I had a phone call with the hiring manager, followed by a panel presentation, essay and 1v1 interviews, a total of around 4 hours of interviews amongst all the steps. The writing prompt is clearly a differentiator and while others complained I found it be an interesting exercise, but it does sting to have sunk hours of time in preparation only to be told "Oh, actually your interview is why we wanted to go another direction" A very stinging response.
